Using PortImport, ports on internal LAN machines can be accessed even when the LAN does not have or allow inbound forwarding through its Internet gateway or router. A single TCP connection is made outbound from one of the internal machines, and then all ports on all internal machines are accessible. The effect is similar to that of a VPN but much faster and easier to configure. Additionally, real-time data statistics and connection logs are available for troubleshooting and informational purposes. Both UDP and TCP are supported, as are IPv4 and IPv6. No installation is required. Both ends can be scripted for interaction-free establishment of the tunnel.
Both ends use relative file paths for true portability. A built-in chat dialog allows the users to quickly communicate if necessary.
Unlike with some solutions, PortImport transfers all traffic over a single TCP connection. Even UDP traffic is transferred over the TCP connection. The tunnel connection is fault-tolerant on both ends, making it reliable under unstable conditions. Unlike with standard solutions, no driver installation and no administrative privileges are needed. No system modification is necessary. PortImport is easy to use and provides real-time status information.
